Another trip to the lake

As you can probably tell we spend a lot of time at the lake during the summer. Peyton has recently decided that he can swim with his floaties and life jacket all by himself. And thanks to Erin Rabb he is running and jumping off the side like a maniac! He is all about the double chair tube and the jet ski. He has a new favorite song..." Out last night" By Kenny Chesney. I'm not really sure how he picked up on it but here is the story..... We were in the car one day and Peyton said " Mommy, who is Gary"? I said " I don't know a Gary". Peyton said " You know Gary went out last night"! It is was pretty cute! So, now that is what he sings before he goes to sleep at night.

Update on Bailey Jack

Bailey Jack is doing very well since he has been home. He continues to make progress each day. He apparently was allergic to the lasix that he was on so as soon as we figured that out his little rash above his eye and on his face went away. We had an appointment with Dr. King last week and he said he looks fantastic. He had gained 7oz in 6 days which is the most he has ever gained so he now weighs 15lbs 12 oz!! YAY! He said he still has WPW which is an extra current in his heart and we will have to see a specialist in September and he will decide whether to go in and close it up. If they do have to close it they will more than likely go in through the groin area. Other than that he has finally gotten on his belly and is beginning to move around. He doesn't want to stay there for very long but each day he gets stronger and stronger. He is also really into dancing now! So, everytime you sing him a song he just goes to town with the dancing. It is super cute!!

We got released yesterday afternoon around 4pm. We really didn't know that we were going to be released because Bailey Jack pitched a fit getting out of the wagon and then I felt this popping around his chest. So, after several Drs. looked at it Dr. Jake came in and said that when he did that some of the lower cartilage came loose but it would be okay. Kind of scary but he said that he sees this often. He said that if it were higher then they would have had to another surgery to repair it. So, he is on close observation and minimal activity for a couple of days until he sees Dr. King on Friday. He seems to not be in as much pain as he was in yesterday so I think he is on the way to a full recovery. He is eating better than he has ever eaten and is getting more and more active as time goes on. We are very glad to be back home and can not believe that we got to come home after only 5 days! Recovery Update #3

Bailey Jack did great while getting the chest tube out yesterday and they moved him to a semi private room. This is the step before leaving the hospital. As soon as he got in his room I snatched him up and we cuddled for a LONG time! Ahhhh.....there is nothing like holding your baby after a few days!! I am trying to get him on his old schedule today and get him worked up to eating about 6 oz per bottle. He is eating well and having great out put production. He is only connected to his leads for his heart. He is still a little tired but when we went down to get our final echo we had Becky again and he just lit up when he saw her. Flirting, kicking and smiling with her. She is great!! He is alseep right now and when he wakes up I will get some more pictures in his little crib. They are saying right now that if he continues to eat well then there is a chance that he will get to go home sometime this week! YAY! My Mom, Dad and Peyton will be traveling back to Ruston today and Bryan will be headed back this way after he takes care of some work there so keep them in your prayers as they travel through the day! Peyton had an outing with the men while the girls plus Uncle Jared had lunch yesterday. He went to the Peabody to see the ducks march in and then to play on the playground there. Bryan said he had a BLAST!

Recovery Update #2

We have been in to see him this morning and he was very alert watching his mobile and the Bee Movie. I'm pretty sure he was just looking at the colors on the movie. We brought him the teddy bear that his Rae Rae had given him and his own blanket. When we got there this morning they had already removed his canula so he is totally breathing on his own. The Drs. were making thier rounds while we were in there and they said they would be removing his chest tubes and all the lines in his neck. So, the only thing he will have left will be one line in his foot for meds and if they have to draw any blood. So, after they get through the major hoop of the chest tube they will more than likely move him into a room. These pictures I am posting I wanted to show you how much better his coloring looks in his eyes. So, the first one was taken Wednesday night and then I just took the second one a few minutes ago. I will update after they remove his tubes.

Recovery Update

It appears that Bailey Jack is on his way to a speedy recovery! Dr. Jake was in early this morning and said that he was the healthiest baby in the unit right now. You can immediately tell that his coloring is 10x better. Minus the carotenemia from eating only orange foods he is not really blue anymore. The blue around his eyes is almost all gone and his fingernails and toenails are the normal pink color. As you can see he is no longer on the ventilator anymore which they removed late last night. They have also taken out his catheter, and his artery line in his leg. He has started eating and is doing very well with that. He had a full 2 oz of pedialite and then at noon he had another 2 oz mixed with half pedialite half formula and he just had a full 3 oz of formula at 3pm. So, now they will give him a bottle every 3 hours as long as he continues to tolerate it. They are trying to ween him off the pain meds now so he is just on tylenol with codeine. The only thing the are really watching closely is his BP. It is a little high and they are just watching it to make sure he doesn't need to be put on any medication. The Drs. said that they will probably pull the chest tube either tomorrow or Monday and then he can move to his own room. He has been pretty responsive every time we have been in there and I have even gotten a few smiles out of him. I am dying to hold him but until they pull the chest tube he has to be left alone. He has had so many visitors already so I would say we are a very blessed family. Peyton has been well taken care of! He has been swimming, on the playground, and to the zoo! So, I don't think he has been mistreated at all. We have been so blessed to have such wonderful friends and family. Keep praying for a speedy recovery and safe travel for my family tomorrow. All Done!

The miracle hands working on my baby!

We are all done now!! They did not have a bed for him in ICU so he had to wait in the OR for a little bit but they let Bryan and I go in and see him for about 3 minutes. We got to talk to Dr. Jaquweiss and he said it went like text book. He said the reason they removed the little bump was because he did not like how it was affecting the conduction system. Plus when he removed it all the blood flow ran much better and he will not have to have a pace maker. So, when we got back to the waiting room I was greeted by Ashley James and a Tornado! Yes, we all had to move to the hall way with our blankets.....Kind of scary! Anyway we are all fine now and they have sucessfully moved him to his little spot in ICU. Bryan, Mimi and myself have all gotten to see him. He has his breathing tube in but they think he might actually come off that either tonight or in the morning. They said that he will be hooked up for a couple of days and we will possible get to hold him on Sunday. Thank you all so much for your sweet comments and prayers! It has carried me through the day! Update #3

There was a little piece of muscle that he had to take off and are sending to pathology for just routine. We knew ahead of time that this might happen because they found it on the echo yesterday. It was just in the way of flow and he just wanted to be precautious about it. They had to shock his heart one time but he is off bypass now and closing him up. The nurse actually took some pictures to show me exactly what it looks like. He said the Doctor would be in after they get him all sewn up and the nurse would be back in about an hour for another update. He said we should be able to go in and see him probably around three.

The nurse just came in and said it was rather boring in there. He said that they closed the PDA and the ASD has been sewn up. Now he is working on the VSD, which is the biggest of the three holes. He will be back in about an hour. My good friend Mary who is an audiologist here at Children's has been in the room with me for about an hour and let me tell you that there is nothing like seeing a friendly face!! Keep the prayers up! Thank you so much!!

Surgery has begun

We just got word that surgery has begun and everything is going fine. They will be back around 12:30 for another update.

They have taken him back

They took my sweet baby back about an hour ago. They are just getting prepared and the nurse came in and said he was very alert and playing with all the staff. He went in with his little giraffe snuggly and his pacifier. They said they would start around 11:30 and would let us know when they begin. We are all loving the comments! update on Bailey Jack

Bailey Jacks surgery got pushed back until 10:30am because his doctor was needed to do a heart transplant late last night. So after he goes in I will try and keep you posted on his progress.
Yesterday was a very long day for all of his clinic stuff. The worst part was when they had to sedate him to get the best view for his echocardiogram. He woke up about 45 minutes after they were into it but luckily we had a sweet sweet nurse who sang a VERY long old Mcdonald song to him. After they were finished he dove in her arms hugged her and gave her a great big kiss. Thank you all for all the prayers and sweet coments.

A date with Peyton and a surprise for Bailey Jack

Peyton asked if he could go and get a little snuggly for Bailey Jack so when the Doctors give him his "shots" he would not be afraid. So, Peyton and I went to the children's shoppe and purchased a little giraffe and a silky frog. I thought he was so sweet to suggest this that I took him on his very on lunch date. Peyton is now absolutely positive he won't be afraid at the hospital.

A few from the Lake

We went to the lake this past weekend and tried to relax a little before Bailey Jack's surgery. Bailey Jack enjoyed his first pickle and got to get in the baby pool for the first time. Peyton spent most of his time playing with his cousin Makayla. They did the water slide, slip and slide, went fishing and Peyton drove the boat. I am pretty sure that Peyton thinks he is the captain of the boat whenever he is in the boat.

I can't wait to REALLY ride in Big Bertha!

Sea World

We had a blast at Sea World! Bryan, Peyton and I went to Sea World at the end of May. We left Bailey Jack in good hands with Mimi and GG. I am sure he was well taken care of and probably enjoyed himself more there than he would have with us! Peyton's favorite thing was the shamu coaster. I am pretty sure we must have rode it at least 15 times. We rode it enough times to get a decent picture that they take. The Miracle show with Shamu was great but if you plan on going make sure you go early to get a good seat. He went down his first "real" water slide and LOVED it! I am pretty sure he would have gone down it head first all by himself if I would have let him.

My Adorable Children

My children are the greatest gift that God has ever given me!Peyton is 3 which as of right now I think this could be my favorite age. His latest thing is he has a "secret" and he says:" T-O-Y-S and that spells FOR toys!" As you probably guessed he is learning his alphabet right now and has almost mastered all the letters. When we get to the letter M is says turn it around mommy and that will be a W. He is taking the summer off to swim and play with me and his little brother but will be going to Montesorri in the Fall.

Bailey Jack is 9 months but is trying to be 3 like his big brother. He adores Peyton and watches his every move. He is working on crawling right now but can't quite get his little chest off the ground so he scoots. If he manages to get on the hardwood floors he is all over the place. He is talking dada, baba, and makes a whole lot of bubbles. He loves to give you kisses so if you are ever hoding him be prepared for a big kiss on the cheek!

The main reason I set up this blog was because Bailey Jack will be having open heart surgery next Friday and I would like to keep all of you posted on how he is progressing. He has 3 holes in his heart a PDA ,ASD and a VSD. We will be leaving next Thursday for all his clinic stuff and his surgery will be on the 12th at 7am. As he progresses I will try to update his progress. Please pray for his surgery and all of my family traveling to see him.
